Building An Acoustic instrument in Stoke-on-Trent
I attended a workshop in Stoke-on-Trent, which was building a strum-stick guitar. I am very willing to learn it cause I found nowadays there are more and more people focusing more on electronic sounds than wood sounds. As a person who really enjoyed listening to a string instrument, I can not wait to go on a trip for it.
With the help of Teds, who works as a craftsman for a dozen years, I learn how to use the machines to dig holes, cut out the boards and make them smooth. I am thinking of putting a contact microphone in the strum stick guitar then later on I can plug into a noise box whatever… So I bought a contact mic on amazon and brought it there.
The hardest part was shaking the neck of the strum-stick guitar, it was almost like the neck of the violin, which demonstrated its “richness”. It just took ages for me to ruin the wood and made the curve beautiful but it just did not make any sense for the final sound. It is more about making it perfect.
When I put the strings on, it sounds okay but a bit trembling. It might be the problem I didn’t cut the space quite right on the strum stick guitar but overall I am satisfied with it. I am thinking to tune it when I went back home.
