It is very annoying because my rooftop is leaking at the moment and it is my birthday. I just hear the raindrops when I am falling asleep. The high frequencies are triggering me very anxiously. Sadly it would be an inspiration for the environment I would like to record. I am thinking of borrowing an ambisonic microphone for my project cause I think it would be useful to record the environmental surroundings with different frequencies, and it is just easy and convenient to get lots of amount of audio files once a time.

I spent my own time listening to Ingrid’s art piece Still Life and it was very intriguing and amazing. I really enjoyed the combination of her singing voice and the natural surroundings. I think it is a very ambient and lovely piece to make me feel calm and immersed.

We talked about how to use FB360 and GRM plugins in ProTools as well, so I beg it is a very technical lesson.

FB360 Encoder intro

• Recording with Ambeo microphone and Sound Devices recorder • A to B format
• Image & Audio date combination
• Encoding with FB360

• Use in DAW

Ingrid recommended I use space grain for my project so I was spending time looking at it.

Diegetic and Non-Diegetic Sound

The term diegetic denotes sound that is perceived by the characters in the film.Though unbeknownst to the characters, diegetic sound is also perceived by the audience. This use of sound establishes a voyeuristic relationship between the characters and their audience.

Non -diegetic sound is heard exclusively by the audience, often providing them with more information than is provided to the characters.

Proposal

I am working on a project talking about mainly the transmission of information: 1. 7 senses from a human being. 2. How 7 different people would react by transferring trouble information in a domino theory. It is a sustainable project so I am pretty sure I will focus 90 percent of my project on sound for spacialisation in element 1 and might focus more on electronics in element 2.

I might build up 7 sound installations and make them shout in 7 speakers and enable one of the speakers to play with the electric piano. But for the sake of time and lots of issues going on, I am pretty sure I won’t finish the sound installations at the submission of element 1. (Lots of traffic jams going on such as I make a dead synth, and I need to write an OSC program for my muse ‘headpan’, the first auditory cassettes installation doesn’t work from my design…etc everything is having issues which make me feel depressed) But I will never give up so at least I get something down such as making a drumstick guitar but not tuning, cutting the copper pipes but not sticking to each other, building up an alcohol detector and some interesting patches) I wouldn’t like to show the design of my installations cuz I still want to keep them fresh and who knows if they would be changeable or not in the near future.

In the final presentation of element 1, I will narrow it down to a multichannel piece: at least the concept of what I am making and try to finish as many installations as I can. Cuz I need to sleep and work. And at least I will do some fabulous effects on the touch designer to make it not very abstract. And I am thinking to hire dancers for my element 2 so the sound installations could be improvised or at least taking videos and making them into 7 channels in TV, who knows?
