CISA–Kathy Lane

Kathy Lane is a renowned academic, composer and sound artist who holds the position of Professor of Sound Art at the University of the Arts London. And she was formerly head of CRiSAP (Creative Research in Sound Art Practice).
Her work features tandem spoken word, field recordings and archival material. She examines our histories, environments and community and personal memories from a feminist perspective, focusing on the relationship between sound and the past. Through compositional, installation-based work, she has worked with dancers, filmmakers, visual artists and musicians, and these are integrated as part of her creative process.
Also noteworthy is the fact that
Cathy Lane has contributed to the academic and literary fields in addition to her own artistic life.

Here All We Are(Lucier Mix) review:
A combination of narrative and ambient sounds. A quiet atmosphere is created and conveyed through the audio. Unlike radio, despite the similarity in format, the author did not seem to care about exactly what the listener was going to hear when creating this piece. There is a lot of use of repetition. The overall style of the piece is,however, difficult to focus.

She’s good at doing that, stringing together spoken words so that tired female voices sigh, and it’s no surprise that she’s doing it because she’s experimental and groundbreaking. Lane does not seem to be producing for the sake of making works, but for practicing his own ideas and conveying his attitude. The addition of mosquitoes and male voices makes the entire narrative structure more complete. Just like the story she is trying to convey, the existing situation of feminism always seems to face many obstacles. Combination of narration and ambient sounds. Create and communicate a quiet atmosphere through audio. Unlike radio, despite the similar format, the writer didn’t seem to care about exactly what the audience would hear when he created this piece. There are many uses of repetition. The overall style of the piece is, however, hard to focus on listening to, as if thinking is what the sound is trying to lead us to do.
