CISA–Life Flash (Feedback)
Improvement:
I think the third and the fourth act are very well done. But the first and the second still need to improve. Also I feel like our show idea is still very ambiguous and the overall intention can be more clear.
1st section:
The bell and clinking sounds are very intriguing. Perhaps we could add more variety of sound in the background to compensate, especially sounds that wake people up from a dream. A meditative tempo, paving way for the upcoming intense performance. Just like a calm before the storm.
The fire alarm was amazing! We could volume it up and make it a more smooth transition! The getting changed part feels a bit contrived so we could think of something together.
2nd section:
The performance was amazing but I felt like it lacked something that we have compared to the 3rd and the 4th sections. Perhaps we could make it more visually beautiful. Props/jewellery that could go together with the make up. We could make it more fierce and fearless. Just like two alpha lions.
3rd section:
The best part. But! Don’t try to imitate the performance for the next shows. Every show and location are different so follow your intuition and the way you touch your props. Remember the feeling is the key. The props are amazing (Shuting is the master of props)! “Spinning and spiralling” would be the overall visual direction for props.
The sounds of paper being tore are also very intriguing. Here maybe we can think more about how to make the sound art more blend in.
4th section:
I feel like the timing for monologue and us giving the glasses can be better. Ayisha’s speaking was fine and Virgi’s spinning was good too, but there is a slightly odd gap between third and the forth section.
Ending:
The quietness at the end was very good! And it went really well with the grass and the sun. But I’m not sure if this would look and feel the same when performed indoor or in the church. More to explore!
(Sound: Volume is tricky. My classmates think the volume could be bigger. But there are people think it is quite loud so they are escaping being in the grass. But to immerse in the sound, we have to be on the grass, otherwise the movement of the sound would be different.
An audience is asking about the connection(interactivity)between the cello and the movements.
Maybe a microphone giving to the actress or let the actress speak words to the audience directly
Visual: overall is quite good. The transition of how the props being away should be really in consideration.
And then the audience is saying if you want to record then it might be worth know letting the audience know kind of.)
【The performance had intensity and this was carried by the dancers whom were engaging and at times mesmerising to watch. The sound elements worked well throughout and I feel the composition is strong and works good with the actors, creating a space where they are evidently able to work with and around the sound, the addition of the Cello was a very good touch and complimented the space.
Technical issues with speakers and outdoor environment aside I feel something that may work better is for the smaller speakers is for the mix being played back to share audio material, by which I mean to pan the individual sounds from each to one another so as the audience will experience a more cohesive relationship with the sound elements wherever they are sat during the performance. Another strong point was the time based interaction between the dancers and the sound, there were moments where I would suggest increasing volume of the mix for emphasis, such as the transition between first and second chapters, what you have already works so just tweaks. This is something that you could also consider at the start, I feel that a more defined sonic element for Virginia that defines her approach could be interesting. Again though I want to emphasis that what you have produced works very well and overall structure, flow and interaction is engaging and when combined with the other elements at play here really come to life. You should be very happy and I was very impressed.】
