CISA–Rory Salter

Rory Satler, aka Malvern Brume (his given name), a London-based artist and musician, has released his debut record, titled Tendrils. Originally from the countryside and now living in London, Brume finds the city breathless, but draws inspiration from it. The album serves as a response to the urban environment, juxtaposing live recordings of rural landmarks with synthetic electronic tones.
The compositions on ‘Tendrils’ transform picturesque places into abstract, clattering soundscapes, and Brume’s musical approach creates an atmosphere reminiscent of old, eccentric tape archives.
Despite the incorporation of electronic music elements, Brume’s sound maintains a distinctive, unselfconscious strangeness.
‘Tendrils’ has been described as the definitive record of Malvern Brume’s unique sound world, demonstrating his ability to make familiar instruments and sound sources his own.

Music review:
His music has a sense of reality, and one can imagine listening to music with headphones is like riding a bicycle through the neon lights of the city. However, the addition of electronic sounds seems to add a religious sense of the temple. The two sensations were strangely and harmoniously combined.

One cannot completely leave behind the place one comes from, one carries the imprint to a greater or lesser extent, depending on whether one intends to conceal it or to be open about it, and Salter is undoubtedly the latter, never hiding and loving the rural imprint he carries and adopting it into his music. There is thus a sense of reality to his music, one can imagine listening to it on headphones as if riding a bicycle through the neon lights of the city, but it also recalls the simplicity and naturalness of the village. However, the addition of electronic sounds seems to add to the religious feel of the temple. The introduction of electronic sounds in the process reminds me of a Buddhist temple for no apparent reason, perhaps not intentional on the part of the artist himself, but it does bring me a sense of Zen. These feelings are strangely and harmoniously combined.
