Week2-Expanded Studio Practice for Twenty-First Century Sound Artists

The World’s Simplest Circuit

Today we worked with the breadboards to make variations on the simple one-chip oscillator, implementing LDRs along with force-resistive touch controllers to introduce differing control elements to our circuits. I intend to look at different ways of interacting with my instruments and consider what kind of approach to design I find preference with. Honestly speaking, I had never had the experience of making electronics in my life so this would be the first time to jam. The Single-Chip Space Invader Synth sounds a lot like the old-school console and arcade games that inspired its name because it relies on many of the same sound-generation techniques. Then we were looking at the resistor color cheat sheet which was totally new and confusing for me to understand. The class was very funny, Allen almost fired the circuit and my circuit was streaming out from Theo’s computer, but entirely we got the job done:)

Milo’s touch-spooky synth was very amazing as an example of the oscillators. The core of it was like a repetition of our work today, but it was really creative. When we were using the branches of it to communicate, the sound of it was very amusive.

I repeated what I had done in class and recorded the sound from zoom H5.
